The islands of Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu surround the Seto Inland Sea. It is the largest inland sea in Japan and is located at the approximate center of the islands constituting the nation's territorry. Over seven hundred large and small islands with intricate shorelines form the beautiful, distinct scenery of this region. The climate is temperate with little rainfall, yet six hundred sixty-four different water sources feed into the Seto Inland Sea from its surrounding mountains. On average, fifty billion cubic meters of water flow into the Sea from these sources every year.
